Bragging Rights

OGC member Walter Odello got this 260 pound 8 point buck fall of 2007 close to Lake Kabatogama MN. He shot the buck at 70 yards using a Remington 700XCR in .30-06 with 150 gr. Federal 'Power Shock' ammo.

OGC member Loren Barber sent this taken last fall, "of me and my 6x6 elk on Pilot Knob Mountain north of Hayden, Colorado. I booked the hunt through Eklhorn Outfitters in Craig, Colorado. Dick and Cheryl Dodds, originally from Albert Lea, MN, run this very nice hunting camp. They are wonderful people to deal with. The elk were really bugling. I think that this animal came from about 1000 yards to our call. The shot was from about 110 yards. I used a 300 Win Magnum, 180 grain Barnes triple shock bullets at about 3000 fps."

OGC member Bill Jungbauer sends a photo of his son Adam with his first deer, shot with a NEF Youth .243 with a Red-Dot sight. Is he a happy kid or what?

OGC member John Anderson writes: "...opening day of the 2004 Deer season in Minnesota. We were hunting on our land near Fifty Lakes, Minnesota and both Jessica and Samuel got their deer about 2 hours into the season, and about ten minutes apart! Sam's deer has only one antler and the locals had seen it before. The other antler had been broken off and healed over. Jess had the bigger of the two deer...hers was the "long spike". Sam was shooting his Winchester Featherweight model 70 in 6mm Rem. and Jess used her Ruger Model 77 RS in .243 Win. Both guns have Leupold scopes and they were shooting custom handloads of mine, so I get some bragging rights, too! The DNR agent who took a look at both deer said they were both healthy 4-1/2 year olds."

OGC member Bob Meier shot this moose last season in Zone 77 off the Sawbill Trail. The Moose was shot 8 minutes into the season using a 30.06.

OGC member Ted Johnson shot this 8-pointer on heavily hunted state land near the Minnesota River.

Ted also sent this photo of a 10-point buck he took with a bow during the 2003 season in the same area. Here's proof that you don't have to hunt private land to find good deer.

OGC member Dean Chapman writes: "I would like to submit my game pictures for the Bragging rights page. All three pictures feature shotguns I've worked up at the club.

"This buck was taken in 2004 near Embarass Wisconsin, with a Winchester 1300 - cantilevered rifled 12 gauge - shooting 3" Rottweil Brenneke at 95 yards, using a Hakko Panorama red dot. Setup and dialed in at Oakdale Gun Club! 8 points 195 pounds dressed.

"This doe was taken in 2004 near Embarass Wisconsin during "T" zone season - with a Winchester 1300 black shadow - cantilevered rifled 12 gauge on a Black Warrior stock - shooting 3" Rottweil Brenneke at 45 yards, using a Hakko Panorama red dot. Setup and dialed in at Oakdale Gun Club! 104 pounds dressed.

"This gobbler was taken in 2006 near Embarass Wisconsin - with a Stoeger 12 gauge over and under, shooting 3 inch Remington Nitro #4 at 15 yards. Shotgun was cleaned out of the box at Oakdale gun Club, paper patterned, with practice on ground-placed clay pigeons and at our manual trap machine with clay pigeons purchased at Oakdale Gun Club! 23 pounds dressed. Turkey calls practiced at Lake Elmo park!

"Good equipment and hunting was only part of the equation, membership access and practice at Oakdale, along with mentoring and pointers from older club members, gave me the success that goes in the freezer."

OGC member Ben Langton shot this nice buck on the evening of opening day, 2005. The location remains a secret.

OGC member Karl Schwab shot this buck on the last day of the 2005 rifle season up in Shotley, MN, near Upper Red Lake, using a .243 Ruger M77 at about 85 yards. The buck dressed out at 181.5 lbs.

Karl also took this nice 4-pointer at the Marine Corps base in Quantico, Virginia, using a Remington 11-87 slug gun at about 100 yards. The buck dressed out at 86 pounds.

OGC members Tom Huelsman and Mike McNulty and their friends bagged this load of ringnecks in one day of hunting on public land in South Dakota.

OGC member Dan Patz dropped this nice 8-pointer with one shot on opening day, 2004, "somewhere near Lake Mille Lacs." Who says a .30-30 isn't enough gun?

An area motorist demonstrates how to get a big buck the really hard way. Click on the picture for more information. (Don't worry. No humans were injured in this incident. Can't say the same for the deer, though.)
